katmarajade: Woman drinking coffee with words "wake up" over her face (xmas snowflake)

I've decided to start posting my holiday drabbly bits today, which will mean that I can get everything posted before that crazy week right before Christmas when people are busy with rl and not around lj so much.  :)  Plus, it will give me a spot of leeway in case I miss a day or something.

There are SIXTEEN!  I'm so excited about them all and there's such a wide variety.  Some are short, some are a bit longer, my muse is a fickle lady and got a little carried away with a few of the prompts, so it's all very random.  I adore every one of you and obviously the length of your gift fic is not a mark of who I love more, right?  Right.  I think everyone knows this, but I'm fussy and wanted to state it outright just to be sure.

A quick run down of stats-- 10 Harry Potter, 6 Star Trek.  7 slash, 5 het, 1 femslash, and 3 gen.  Length ranges from 375 words to 1400, and Neville Longbottom and Hikaru Sulu are apparently the studs, because they both got featured in 5 fics a piece.  :)  I hope you like them!  Quick disclaimer that most of these are not betaed, so there may be a few errors! Sorry. I'll try to post so that the pairings and fandoms are varied so the order will be according to my own personal whimsy. And I will respond to your comment in the original post when I post your fic so that you'll be notified and don't need to worry about missing it.  Have fun, my dears!

First on the list comes a Harry/Neville drabble for my dear [livejournal.com profile] aigooism who gets to go first because she's gotten stuck last on a couple things recently.  :)  So Merry Christmas, [livejournal.com profile] aigooism! I hope that you enjoy this!

Title: Crazy Over Christmas
Author: [livejournal.com profile] katmarajade
Holiday present for: [livejournal.com profile] aigooism
Pairing: Harry/Neville
Rating: PG
Word count: 621
Prompt: Harry discovers his lover is quite talented . . . at playing simple piano pieces like "Chopsticks" (which, um, I don't really follow ... at all. lol)

Harry Potter is crazy over Christmas. (Neville should know). He spends ridiculous sums of money on a ridiculous number of ridiculous gifts. Neville has tried to get him to tone it down, but to no avail.

Most of the gifts are for Teddy, Harry's godson. Last year Teddy got two different toy brooms, a set of magical tower building blocks, another toy wand, a life-sized stuffed pony, a kids' drum set, four different Quidditch jerseys, six jumpers, a pair of sky high bouncing shoes, a xylophone, a drivable red race car, and a puppy—among other things.

For the last two years Neville and Harry have spent Christmas at Andromeda Tonks' home, with Neville's Gran also in attendance, so that Harry could spend as much of Christmas with Teddy as possible. Usually Neville and Andromeda exchange fond but exasperated glances as Harry produces package after brightly colored package.

Teddy is clearly spoiled rotten, having Harry dote on him so, but one thing holds Neville back from saying "enough is enough already!" which, to be completely honest, it is.

It's just that Neville knows that Harry never had a good Christmas as a child, didn't have parties or presents or ginger biscuits or egg nog. He never woke on Christmas morning to a feeling of excitement and anticipation over cheerfully wrapped boxes and special toys. There was no fancy Christmas dinner for Harry and no lazy Boxing Day brunch. No Mum and Dad to beam proudly when he squealed over a particularly long-sought toy or to wipe his face when he ate too many chocolates. No one had pulled crackers with Harry or given him a silly Christmas hat to wear. Harry hadn't really had Christmas at all.

Neville understands Harry's urge to ensure that Teddy is not deprived of child Christmases (or childhood anythings, actually). He also knows that Andromeda doesn't have a lot of money. She'd balked at first at the idea of accepting funds from Harry, but (and Neville knows from all too much experience) it's really hard to say no to Harry Potter. She accepts only enough to keep the house standing, food on the table, and clothes on Teddy's ever changing and growing back. Neville sees the frustration in her eyes though, and he knows that she wishes that she could be the one to provide Teddy with flashy trinkets and shiny new toys. Which is why, even though Harry continues to spoil the boy rotten and give him far too many (often pointless) things, she never says no. Maybe one day, when Teddy's a bit older, when the pain of losing her husband and daughter is further in the past, she'll say something. But Neville knows that it will be a long time coming.

So for now, Neville makes a point to keep Andromeda's mug of mulled cider full. He plies Gran with her favorite treacle buns, the ones she only eats on Christmas, to keep his wonderful but ever-interfering grandmother's mouth shut. He gathers up the discarded gift wrap and ribbons that Teddy flings aside during his manic gift-opening binges. And he watches his lover, who loves more deeply and cares more intensely than anyone Neville has ever met.

Harry's ridiculous. He throws his fortune around foolishly on everyone but himself. (Just take his wardrobe, which consists mainly of faded jeans with bald knees and years worth of Weasley jumpers).

But Neville can't bear to see that gleeful grin of his wiped off his face. So Neville sits back and watches Teddy unwrap a keyboard while Harry enthusiastically attempts to show the four-year-old how to play Chopsticks.

It's ridiculous, sure, but after everything, he thinks that maybe his Harry deserves the chance to be ridiculous.
